My first view of Camp Chanco was on an unseasonably cold October morning in 1975 when I arrived with a carload of EYCers from St Michael's in Colonial Heights for Fall Weekend.  I had never heard of Camp Chanco, even though I had grown up in the Diocese of Southern Virginia - the last I knew, it was a Boy Scout camp.  I had no idea what to expect; I had just been cajoled into bringing the girls because the regular EYC advisor was sick and there was no one else to bring them.  My son went to stay with his grandparents and the Rector (Don Porcher) traded cars with me - my Honda Civic wouldn't cut it with 5 of us!

The weekend was a defining moment in my life as I discovered for the first time what God's love was all about and I was hooked on teenagers!  From that day on, I moved on a long journey that would take me from Camp Chanco to Sewanee, TN and back - from a lay advisor for EYC to a priest in God's church.  Chanco played a major part in my "coming of age."
