Boat for Chanco

I just wanted to post a request for assistance if anyone is interested. You may remember a boat was donated to Camp during the Fall Fest. The downside is the boat is in FL and Chanco is in VA. We talked about a road trip and things to drive it up, but as things like that go, we decided that the best thing to do is to have a professional ship the boat. That way, it is protected by their insurance, and all bases are covered. The total cost for shipping the boat is $1835. I just wanted to see if anyone was willing to help get the boat to Chanco with a donation. If so, please let Boomer know at director@chanco.org, so he can earmark your donation specifically for these shipping costs. Any help at all is appreciated. Ken Weissner is great. He already pledged $500 to help with this.

Fall Fest

Well, I really wanted to say thanks. I ate so much for $30 it was very unlikely that you made any money off me.

I had a great time seeing Ken, Alex, Chris, Jon, Michelle, Ada, and Steve again. Congratulations to Carrey and Dave for having kids. That is not new news, but it was news to me.

My apologies to the naked people I ran into on the beach at 3:00 a.m. Looking good though ;). Haha, to be honest between the dark and my drunkeness, I really could not focus well, so any testimony that I would give in a court of law could certainly be easily disqualified...  continue reading »

I recall some really special people that I met while I worked at camp. One that I think about alot recently, given the current world situation, was a young christian lady from the middle east. I believe she was Palestinian, but I am not sure. I recall being surprised that she was Christian and the nationality that she was, mistakenly assuming that Islam was the state religion for the country. I have to admit that I cannot remember her name, although I believe it starts with an "S." She was a quiet girl, but one evening Michelle Eversen and I were talking to her. She told us how nice it was to spend a summer in such a peaceful place, without being overly concerned for your own personal safety. That really made me consider how lucky we all were and are to be where we were and are. And then I thought,  continue reading »

Random Recollections

I got a little choked up looking through this site.  By the way, I am _____ in the picture Helen has of Riddick and _____.  I suppose I am forgettable.  In fact, I was an intensly shy person before I came to camp.  Starting with David Belote, I can recount so many relationships with people from Chanco that helped to nurture my self-confidence.  Perhaps my self-confidence became a little over developped after a while.  continue reading »
