The Story of a Chanco Camper's Mail

Send this camper to camp

A Camper's mail is important. So important that he or she must sing for it. At least that's the way it was when I was a camper back in the stone age. Sometimes a card or a letter sent to a camper will prove to be much more important than you might ever imagine. I want to tell the true story of a more recent camper's Chanco mail. So get comfortable and read on... continue reading »

Work Weekend 2009

Summer is fast approaching and there is work to be done. Chanco needs us! I know many of you mentioned after the reunion that you were anxious to get back to camp ... here's your chance!

The CCAA will be holding it's work weekend on May 15-17. Arrive Friday in the late afternoon/evening, hang out around the campfire with us, spend the night in a chalet and be ready to wake up bright and early Saturday morning for a full day of work. If you can only come down on Saturday or Sunday, that's fine, too.

We've talked to Jim Sitzler, the Camp Director, and we have a long list of things that need to be done. We will be doing lots of fun stuff like repairing and possibly building picnic tables in the campsites, repairing benches in the amphitheater, removing stumps, building tent city (remember the tents at old camp? They still use them!), carrying boats down to the waterfront, possibly doing some repairs to the bathhouses ... and whatever else Jim can come up with. We will need tools and materials for all of our projects, so let me know if you can help us out. My email is annkrannitz@gmail.com

Jim also informed us that the out-trip cooking gear is a little on the "I can 't believe we can eat out of this" side (his words exactly). We will get a list from him of items that need to be replaced and we'll set up a little online store so that you can purchase items to donate. We'd like to be able to completely replace the gear for the summer as a little gift from the alumni.

We'll see you all in May! continue reading »

Work Weekend - May 15-17 2009

Time to mark your calendars! This year's work weekend is scheduled for May 15-17th. It's a come when you can, bring what you can, help where you can event! We're hoping to fill up at least a couple of campsites, so let us know if you're going to be able to help out. There is no registration fee. What can be better than spending the night under the stars in exchange for a little sweat?

We're having a planning meeting in a couple of weeks and will be able to fill you in on the details once we figure them out!

If you have any questions you can email me at annkrannitz@gmail.com continue reading »
