This old postcard was in a large box of partially organized photos I picked up from camp. Ah, the old PD shack.
Quote from the back: "Camp Chanco is used by Tidewater Episcopalians for weekend retreats and summer camp programs."

Camp Postcard
I have that postcard too!!! All sorts of things happened in the Old PD Hut. I still remember the smell of the old memeograph (spelling) machine. Does it still work?? LOL Planning and planning and planning. Much laughter and much thought. Many raids!! I think the PD's bed ended up on top of the roof many a time!! And it was "rolled" a few times too!!

The hut
Just seeing the hut made so many memories flood back. I had forgetten what that vision looked like since my last two years at camp were at the new property. Coming to senior high in 1983 not knowing a soul was a scary experience but I enjoyed myself so much that I got Dave Davenport to take a chance and hire me as a 16 year-old counselor in 1984. I had a summer that was amazing. I learned a lot of things then, but many of the lessons people tried to teach me that summer took years to sink in. Charlie Aubrey was my first co-counselor and we were in Mathew for 1st session. We had a great group of kids and played Glow-in-the frisbee in the septic field behind the tents. it's a minor miracle no one ever got hurt.
I have so may more memories as I walk through camp in my mind - both old and new camp. The waterfront, canoeing into the marsh, arts and crafts hall with all the costumes, walking through camp without a flashlight, waiting to catch the last ferry back to camp on a day off, so many memories with so many people. It's really great to see campers I had on the site as well - it's even more amazing to realize that I'm only a few years older than they are. I felt so old then - what did I know?
