Camper, EYC, Counselor and Staff member
Greetings to all campers and fellow staffmembers,
What a trip down memory lane! The website and photos are fantastic. Cudos to all of those involved. I have children of my own now and want them to attend Chanco as campers. How could I not share this wonderful experience with them? The summers I spent on the James River at Chanco were both fun and exciting but they always ended way to quickly. I learned much about the outdoors but more about relationships with others. I also met some truly great people who were wonderful friends. Thru EYC, I learned even more about friends but especially about my relationship with God through our Lord and Savior. As a staff member - I learned about teaching, listening, how to drown campers and of course patience with the campers and the other staffmembers! (The part about drowning campers was just to make sure you weren't falling asleep.)
It has been over 23 years since I was lucky enough to be on staff. (Just remember - the waterfront staff RULES!) I was fortunate enought to work in both arenas, as a counselor and a staff member. I will never forget the friends and their faces nor the wonderful times. I have been serving our country in the United States Navy since my last summer as a staff member in 1984. I count my blessings everyday that I was fortunate enough to attend and work there. A giving, loving and sharing environment for the children and the staff - I think of you all as my extended family. The summers and the many experiences there have made me the person I am today. The special place that is Chanco will always have a place in my heart. OK, enough sappy stuff.
All the best to all of you!
