From the CCAA Board
It's been a while since we've done a CCAA update, so we want to let you all know what's in the works. The CCAA Board had a conference call Sunday night to plan our upcoming in-person meeting on April 19th and discuss recent events involving the Chanco Board.
We are very close to getting everything set up to legally accept dues and be tax-exempt. We will let you know when we are ready to start our membership drive.
The Fall Alumni Reunion is scheduled for October 10-12th at Chanco on the James. One of the big topics for our April meeting is the planning and running of the reunion. We'll keep you all posted on what we plan and we will be calling on volunteers to help out.
We are also still working on ways that we can help the mission of Camp Chanco in light of recent events. It is no secret that we are disappointed that the Executive Director position was eliminated, however our main goal here is ensuring the continued existence of Chanco. One of the things that we talked about was supporting the Camp Chanco Open Houses that are coming up. Although details will have to be filled in, the CCAA board is willing to contribute in time and manpower. And we will continue our discussion on this.
As always, please keep Chanco in your prayers,
Ann Krannitz

How to help?
Dear Chanco Friends,
First of all, I want to say thank you. All of the comments shared - while some are angry, some sad, some supportive - they all speak to me to the fact that everyone here cares about Chanco. I want to thank the CCAA Board for their posting of support for Chanco's mission despite the disappointment of the elimination of the Executive Director position. In fact, I mentioned earlier to the CCAA President that I have been told more than once by Diocesan "higher ups" that had it not been for the huge alumni response at Fall Fest 2007, Chanco would likely already be closed. There is no underestimating the importance of the Alumni support and I thank you sincerely for that.
On a personal note, I am beginning to feel that while I don't fully understand God's plan in all of this, I still have faith in it. In my Chanco Feasibility Study survey (if you haven't turned yours in yet, please do!), when asked what Chanco's greatest strength was, I answered, "God's unmistakable presence there." I still believe this.
Many of you are asking, "How can I help?" One way is to give $10 or $20 per month for 10 months to Chanco's cause. I've already made that commitment and I hope you will join me. We only need 400 Friends of Chanco to give $100 a year or 200 friends of Chanco to give $200 a year to make our budget for donations. It's not unrealistic! We have 200-400 Friends of Chanco, don't we? You may write your check to Chanco on the James and send your donation to Camp Chanco PO Box 378 Surry, VA 23883.
Also, we DO need your help for the Chanco Open House dates and greatly appreciate the CCAA Board offering their help and support. THANK YOU! Campsites need to be cleared, the waterfront cleaned, etc. etc. Please email me (talley@banazek.com) if you are interested and available for a "grunt day" at Chanco this coming Saturday, April 5th from 9am-4pm (or any time you can give)!
Most of all, again, thank you for your support, prayers, energy and love for Chanco.
Warmly,
Talley Sale Banazek
