My dad, The Rev. Alfred C Martin (Mom - Diane) had 9 children and sent us all off to Chanco. 1971-1976, I was a chaplain's brat staying in the chaplain's hut while Dirck and the older sibs were at camp.

Wow... just wow...

I ran across this site in April, and was completely blown away. I'm thrilled to see the site, view the photos and read up on so many friends. Hats off to Greg Willis for putting this site together. It is wonderful to hear from so many folks I remember. I hope this message finds you all well and smiling most of the time.  continue reading »

Photo Albums from 1979

I got a slew of slides from Bill Taylor a while ago, all from 1979. And by 'slew' I mean hundreds, literally. Not sure who took them. But I scanned most all of them and now there's here at Chanco Once. This easily makes 1979 the most-photo-documented year. Interested parties include Keith Owen (that year's PD), Dave Davenport (you gotsta check out that hair), MC Hagar, Dave Belote, Lynda Ryder, Garland Wood, Steve Smith, Mary & Doris and tons of others. It's like the Land Before Time.

So let the folks you find in the photos know their youth is on parade here, and please chip in with the captioning. Enjoy!

Hello!

I was so happy when I discovered this site about a year ago. It's fun seeing more and more people on here and seeing names that I know, especially people who went to my church. I still randomly sing camp songs and Chanco has a very special place in my heart.

It's hard to imagine that so much time has passed since I last visited Chanco.  The only stories that I hear of Chanco now are from a niece who attends every summer and who hopes to someday serve on staff as a counselor.  It's nice to know that the Chanco experience inspires as much excitement in this generation of Chanco campers as it did my generation.  continue reading »
