I love this...
I was looking through old blogs and reminiscing and came across this one that Helen wrote after Fall Fest.....after reading Tater's posted of Boomer's writing and now this one, can't you just FEEL Chanco - the memories brought back by reading these are so vivid - smells, sights, sounds of our beloved Chanco... It is like I am there again. How I love that place...... continue reading »

Fall Fest 2007 A Successful Event!
September 22 and 23rd were busy days at Chanco on the James! The first Annual Alumni “Smoke Signal Sleepover” Reunion was a huge success with every Chalet and Conference Room reserved. We had a wait list for this event and even had folks sleeping in the infirmary beds! Alumni came from as far as Connecticut and Florida to reunite at Chanco for this fun-filled event. The Alumni and their families enjoyed a slide show of photos from the 1970’s to the summer of 2007; heard from Talley Sale Banazek, Development Coordinator about the status of Chanco currently and the marketing, volunteer and financial needs of the Camp; witnessed an Indian Night led by Charlie Hughes with Eucharist officiated by the Rev. David Davenport; heard live music by a male/female acoustic duo; and experienced Eucharist on the Bluff Sunday morning led by the Rev. Stan Sawyer. The food was deliciously prepared and served by the new company overseeing the Chanco kitchen, FCG, LLC. continue reading »
Fall Fest
Well, I really wanted to say thanks. I ate so much for $30 it was very unlikely that you made any money off me.
I had a great time seeing Ken, Alex, Chris, Jon, Michelle, Ada, and Steve again. Congratulations to Carrey and Dave for having kids. That is not new news, but it was news to me.

Route 10 (or) The Spirit Led Me
I knew this road trip would have to happen eventually. I wasn't looking forward to it. After 6 years in a nursing home my mother passed away on June 16, 2007. On the 19th, I left my home in Maryland traveling south to be with my sisters and brother who all live in the same area of northeastern North Carolina where mom had been living. The memorial service wasn't until the following Saturday, the 23rd, but I felt the need to be there early, to help my sister get her house ready for alot of company and to just be there.
It felt like that day was the hottest of the summer so far. The Rt. 295 bypass around Richmond was really getting on my nerves. The exit sign for Hopewell, VA and Rt. 10 came into view. Surely this is a Sign from the Spirit, I thought. I was definitely ready to get off of that interstate. And what better road to travel than on good old Route 10? continue reading »
