Katey Lent (was Kayne-Stevens)

I was a camper from 1996 - 1999 and Staffed as a Lifeguard in 2000. I attended a couple Happenings and October weekends too.  I have been married for 5 years to a wonderful guy, Dave and live just outside Tampa, Florida. I have a gorgeous daughter named Charlotte who is almost 3. I hope someday to be able to share Chanco with my husband and daughter, as I'm sure they would love it.

A Treasured Champion for Chanco

I would like to take the time to recognize a person who is a cornerstone of Chanco history. He has been a part of the camp and then conference center for years. He actually has the longest consistent involvement with Chanco with the exception of probably Charlie Hughes. His influence spans several decades and he has touched the lives of Chanco campers, staff members, parishioners in every convocation within our diocese, and far beyond.

Bill Taylor started coming to Chanco as a camper/conferee in the early 1970s. He quickly gained a reputation as easy-going and fun-loving and was one of those kids who seemed to have found a true home among the people and programs at Chanco. This was the time in his life when he heard the guiding voice of God. Inspired by the clergy and community he experienced, Bill answered the call to devote his life to Christ as a clergy in the Diocese of Southern Virginia.  continue reading »

Mike Terry Is Still Alive

Hello fellow alums.

I was a camper back when muck mouth was a real impedement to flirting at free swim.  I somehow managed to avoid to avoid stepping on a clam shell until John Gulick and I did it simultaniously during Grunt week 1995.  I read on Blue Gums posting, that he thinks someone else tells his story better.  Well that may be true, but I am pretty sure that I have come the closest to actually catching children on fire with my special "White Gas Finale."  continue reading »

Amy Smith

What a great site!  It is wonderful to hear how everyone is doing and recollect forgoten memories...As for me, I am living in Boone, NC and working as a high school counselor.  I have three beautiful, happy, healthy daughters!  Adali (6 months), Penley (21 months) and Scout (9 years).  Scout went to first session last summer and had a BLAST!  She cried all the way home and sang to us every song she had learned!  I guess the Chanco spirit is still going strong...

Wow

Greg,

I am enjoying the trip down memory lane as I search the different years and people. Boy, I look much younger! Just an update since I left the woods at Chanco. I am married and live in Norfolk. I still work at CHKD part time. I am looking forward to next summer when my oldest daughter will be old enough for first session. Nat and I have three wonderful children, Maggie -7, Annie-5 and Thomas 7 months. Let me know if you need any help with the Alumni Association.
