Katey Lent (was Kayne-Stevens)

I was a camper from 1996 - 1999 and Staffed as a Lifeguard in 2000. I attended a couple Happenings and October weekends too.  I have been married for 5 years to a wonderful guy, Dave and live just outside Tampa, Florida. I have a gorgeous daughter named Charlotte who is almost 3. I hope someday to be able to share Chanco with my husband and daughter, as I'm sure they would love it.

A Treasured Champion for Chanco

I would like to take the time to recognize a person who is a cornerstone of Chanco history. He has been a part of the camp and then conference center for years. He actually has the longest consistent involvement with Chanco with the exception of probably Charlie Hughes. His influence spans several decades and he has touched the lives of Chanco campers, staff members, parishioners in every convocation within our diocese, and far beyond.

Bill Taylor started coming to Chanco as a camper/conferee in the early 1970s. He quickly gained a reputation as easy-going and fun-loving and was one of those kids who seemed to have found a true home among the people and programs at Chanco. This was the time in his life when he heard the guiding voice of God. Inspired by the clergy and community he experienced, Bill answered the call to devote his life to Christ as a clergy in the Diocese of Southern Virginia.  continue reading »

I don't know if those are all the years I camped or not, but its a start. If you look at the picture from 1997 on here, there I am, in the front row laying down on the right. That's Nancy, Molly Tatman, and Shannon Williams down there with me. I see Danny French behind me next to Amanda Foskey. I see Kellam in there, too.  continue reading »

What a fantastic site Greg, thank you!  I spent many a summer in the woods of old and new Chanco as a camper and Jr./Sr. High counselor.  I graduated from JMU with a couple of degrees in 97 and 99.  I even made it back to camp in the summer of 2001 to try to get away from the "real world", if only for a week.  I married in 2000, with the Rev. Dr. Stan Sawyer presiding, and we live in Charlotte, NC.  We have an 18 m.o. daughter named Quinn.  I sell medical devices, specifically spine implants.  continue reading »

My first memory of Chanco comes from a wonderful photo of myself and two friends (Stephen Adams and former counselor Charlie Biesecker) outside the dining hall of "Old Chanco" at a 1987 parish retreat. As far as I know, it's still on my mother's fridge. I was a camper from 1995-2000, including avery mischievous time on the Bike Trip and one very, very wet Grand Adventure. I was a camp counselor in 2000 and again in 2001, with one session pinch-hitting as a Nature instructor.  continue reading »

I was a camper from 91- 94, and initiated at one of the only Jr. High initiations... I took a break from camp for a few years, and then came back during college as a counselor, dance teacher, nature teacher, archery instructor, etc.... I pretty much covered all the bases.... I graduated from Longwood College (before it was a University) and have been teaching 4th and 5th grade for the past 7 years. Now I am on the Happening committee, and my am recently married to my wonderful husband Justin, who will be helping with outtrips this summer.   continue reading »

I first heard about camp through Emmanuel in Virginia Beach when I went to October Weekend in 1996 with EYC. I attended Sr. High in 1997 and truthfully, didn't like it much because I was a military brat who didn't know anyone. After staffing a few more retreats, I was asked to be "Bryce Keeper" in 1997 and came back for more every summer (Counselor, and Arts and Crafts Director) until 2003 - my last summer when I also served as Program Director.  Those summers were insane but so good for the soul and I still find myself missing them!  continue reading »
