Photo Albums from 1979

I got a slew of slides from Bill Taylor a while ago, all from 1979. And by 'slew' I mean hundreds, literally. Not sure who took them. But I scanned most all of them and now there's here at Chanco Once. This easily makes 1979 the most-photo-documented year. Interested parties include Keith Owen (that year's PD), Dave Davenport (you gotsta check out that hair), MC Hagar, Dave Belote, Lynda Ryder, Garland Wood, Steve Smith, Mary & Doris and tons of others. It's like the Land Before Time.

So let the folks you find in the photos know their youth is on parade here, and please chip in with the captioning. Enjoy!

Website Update

in

Not that I have an update about the website. No, the website itself is being updated (which is an update, I suppose). By me, that is. Expect weirdness over the next couple of days. And if something looks broken, please drop me a line.

UPDATE: Or leave a comment since the mail doesn't seem to be working. And the Photo Galleries also seem a bit wanked. Still working on it...

UPDATE 2: Photo Galleries should be working now.

UPDATE 3: Mail is working, too. If something looks broken, please drop me a line.

Hey folks, from a large vat box of random camp photos I've got three photo albums that I have no year for. I think they are grouped together properly (each album is the same year) but I could be mistaken. Looks like these are from the 1990s, so if the 90s folks to take a look and let me know, everyone will rejoice. Thanks!

Howdy

in

Well howdy, buckaroos and buckarettes! Hope the winter has been treating folks well. I've just got back from traveling, so my website tinkering continues.

How many times have you come to Chano Once and said to yourself, "The navigation is nice and all, but I wish that I could just see the last 10 things that are new. I've got a life to live, after all, and don't have the time to hunt for teh new stuff." (And yes, you said 'teh' - you are getting on in years)

Fret no more my time-deprived friends. On the front page, there on the right, is the new New & Updated Stuff block. Any new content by anyone on the website will diplay in that very block -- comments, message board posts, bios, you name it. (Except photos, haven't figured that one out yet.)

Enjoy!  continue reading »

Yet More Photo Mania

in

So now we've got the mid-70s covered. Going through the photos you can almost hear the disco music beginning to overwhelm the singer-songwriters.

I've got a couple of Smoke Signals to do, but otherwise my attention will be shifting to this Alumni Association thing. We kick off tomorrow -- have you signed up yet?  continue reading »

Photo Mania

Thanks to everyone who came to the Fall Fest with albums. I have to say that I've had a number of Be-Careful-What-You-Wish-For moments lately with the photos. All told, I'd say we got roughly 500 additional pictures total to place into the gallery. Yes, with two zeros. I've processed and uploaded the easy ones:

But Beth Nufer and Ronn & Barbara have a couple of hundred between them from the early-med 70s. And that's taking a bit of time. So for all you folks jonesing for some bicentennial goodness, hang in there for a couple of weeks. Enjoy!

Sundry Items

Just a few short items.

1. Thanks to Jef Lambdin we have a new album from 1973 three new albums: Summer 73, Sr High 73, Reunion 93.

2. If you're still on the fence about attending the Fall Fest picnic on Sunday 2-5, maybe this menu could convince you:

  • Steamed Oysters
  • Pork BBQ, Pulled Chicken BBQ, Hot Dogs
  • Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, Potato Salad, Hush Puppies
  • Vegetarian: Grilled vegetable medley
  • Canned Soda & Water

3. If you are coming, and you happen to have videos of any sort having to do with camp, bring them too. We will do our best to digitize any video and put it online here at Chanco Once. Anyone who can convince Charley to bring his early 70s videos gets a gold star. And don't forget those photos and Smoke Signals.

4. Problem: you live nowhere near camp and have a life not conducive to just popping by Fall Fest next weekend. Further problem: you'd really like to say hello to everyone. Solution: you can write an open letter to all the folks at the Fall Fest. Further solution: you can do it right from this very website -- no pesky stamps or handwriting. Just go to the contact form, and in the Category drop-down menu, select Fall Fest Letter. Any letters I receive, I will print out and place in a public area for all to read. So even if you're not there in person, you can be there in spirit.
