Chanco Rocks!!

I started at Chanco at the age of 10 and went for 6 years. I spent 2 sessions at Campsite Mary, then did the Tangier Island bike trip, Eastern Shore bike trip, the Splunking Adventure and the Grand Adventure. The most memorable times of my childhood are from Chanco and I think fondly back to those days constantly. I have spoke of Chanco to my kids all the time and this year was my oldest son's second year. Next year my younger son will get to go as well. We don't live in the Virginia area, but my family is from Hampton Roads.

So, I was first introduced to Chanco as a staff brat in the late 70's. I attended my first session as a camper in 1981, living for a week in Revelations with Dane and Brian. I attended camp every year, either for a regular session or for Jr./Sr. High over the next 8 years. Also, I worked several summers in the late 80's and early 90's until I moved to New York in December 1991.

I started my camp experience as a staff brat at age 6. My mother was the camp nurse for one, two week, session and my brother John (then called Andy) and I each stayed a week. I'm the youngest of 5 and all of my siblings had been to camp before me, so I was destined to become a faithful Alumni. I loved my first experience with my mother and couldn't wait to become an official camper.  continue reading »
