My first view of Camp Chanco was on an unseasonably cold October morning in 1975 when I arrived with a carload of EYCers from St Michael's in Colonial Heights for Fall Weekend. I had never heard of Camp Chanco, even though I had grown up in the Diocese of Southern Virginia - the last I knew, it was a Boy Scout camp. I had no idea what to expect; I had just been cajoled into bringing the girls because the regular EYC advisor was sick and there was no one else to bring them. I first found Camp Chanco as an EYC advisor at a Fall Weekend thanks to the priest at St. Michael's in Colonial Heights who called me up on a Friday afternoon to tell me that the EYC advisor was sick and if I couldn't take them, the group would have to miss the Fall Weekend at Chanco. continue reading »

My dad, The Rev. Alfred C Martin (Mom - Diane) had 9 children and sent us all off to Chanco. 1971-1976, I was a chaplain's brat staying in the chaplain's hut while Dirck and the older sibs were at camp.
